Jasmine Hollis had 19 points and 16 rebounds and Miles dominated on the glass the entire game in a 69-57 win over Central State Saturday afternoon at Knox-Windham Gymnasium.
The Lady Bears (9-2, 5-1) led by just one point to start the second quarter but took control of the contest right before halftime.
Je'Keria Strickland (13 points) got hot, making all four of her shots during the quarter, and a 9-2 run over the final two minutes - punctuated by a Strickland putback at the horn - gave Miles a 38-27 lead going into the break.
The lead in the second half rarely dipped below 10 as Miles had multiple opportunities to stay out front. Using a 60-27 advantage on the glass (which included 28 offensive rebounds that led to 19 second-chance points), the Lady Bears took 18 more shots from the field. The lead was as large as 14 points in the third quarter and Marauders (5-11, 3-5) never got any closer than seven points in the second half.
Takyra Gilbert (13 points, six assists), Falon Edwards (12 points, four steals) and Jaeda Davis (12 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals) paced Central State.
Taylor Terry had 10 points and nine rebounds,
Raiana Johnson had five points and 12 rebounds, and
Victoria Sutton added eight points, seven assists , three rebounds and two steals for Miles, which hosts Kentucky State Monday night at 5:30 p.m.
