Golf completes first spring tourney



MOBILE, Ala. -- The Miles golf team finished 10th at the Badger Invitational, a two-day event which was held at the Robert Trent Jones Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course. It was the first tournament of the spring for the Golden Bears.

Miles shot a collective 956 over three rounds (326-312-318), well off the pace of winner William Carey (879). The Golden Bears improved in the standings after each round. They were 11th after the first round and tied for 10th after Round 2. Freshman Taylor Simmons was low-scorer for Miles, shooting a 237. He was 36th on the leaderboard out of 64 competitors. He shot two rounds under 80, including a second-round 76 that was a team-best score for the tournament.

Timothy Simpson (238), who shot two rounds in the 70s but struggled to a final-round 83,  was one shot behind Taylor Simmons and tied for 37th. Josh Lewis, who struggled with an opening-round 84, was the only Golden Bear who improved each round. He shot a final-round 78 to finish at 242, tied for 42. Tyler Simmons (243, T-45) and Christian Copen (246, T-52) rounded out the scoring for Miles.

The Golden Bears are back in action Mar. 22 when they compete in the Marine Federal Credit Union Invitational at Paradise Point Golf Course in Camp Lejune, N.C.
