PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Miles struggles at the plate against Gulf South Conference pitching reappeared Tuesday night in a 13-1 loss to West Florida at Jim Spooner Field.
Xavius Burden, who has struggled in the early going this season, went 2-for-4 with a double and drove in the only run for the Golden Bears (5-9). But UWF (6-8) allowed just two other hits, a single in the fourth by
Ryan Bargery and another single in the ninth by
Roderick Ransom. Before posting a 16-8 win over West Alabama last Wednesday, Miles had just 11 hits in four games against Shorter and North Alabama.
The Argonauts had very little trouble offensively as they banged out 18 hits against a trio of Golden Bears hurlers.
Dylan Johnson (1-3) took the loss after giving up nine hits and six runs (four earned) in four innings of work.
William Donahoo (2 IP, 5 H, 5 ER) and
Matthew White (2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER) did not fare much better as the Argos put up crooked numbers in four separate frames.
Miles has a chance for redemption on Wednesday, when the two teams meet again to conclude the two-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
