Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Terry delivers in time for Lady Bears

Miles squandered a double-digit lead and trailed by six in the fourth quarter before senior forward Taylor Terry took over. She scored 14 points of her game-high 20 points during the final six minutes to help the Lady Bears take a 62-56 win over Shorter Tuesday night at Knox-Windham Gymnasium.

Trailing 46-40 with less than eight minutes remaining, the Lady Bears (2-0) turned the screws defensively over the next three minutes to slow the Lady Hawks (0-4). Shorter had just one field goal and two turnovers during that span while Miles leaned on Terry - who made three straight baskets - and capitalized on its trips to the free throw line. Helped by a technical foul on Shorter coach Tyler Roden, Miles made 5-of-7 free throws to grab a 53-48 lead with five minutes to go. A 3-pointer by Tatum Ragsdale (five points, four rebounds) tied the game at 56 but Terry finished the job by scoring the final six points of the game to put the game on ice.

The Lady Bears opened a 10-point lead in the second quarter as Symone Williams (five points) and Raiana Johnson (nine points) got hot. But Shorter knocked down a couple of 3-pointers, the last coming on a half-court heave by Jasmine Gaines (13 points) at the halftime horn to cut the Lady Hawks deficit to 26-24. Miles struggled in the third quarter, getting just two field goals - both by Jasmine Hollis (11 points, six rebounds) - and getting outworked on the glass to fall into a 42-37 hole after three quarters.

Raven Fair had 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead Shorter. Victoria Sutton scored 10 points and dished out three assist for Miles, which plays again on Friday against Delta State in the Lady Bears Tip-Off Classic. Start time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
