CHILDERSBURG, Ala. -- The slugfest that did not materialize during Saturday doubleheader with Kentucky State at quaint Garland Justice Field was on full display Sunday. The two teams combined for 21 runs and the man with the last swing, Miles' Darione Adkison, was able to put the exclamation point on the exciting series.

Adkison, who came in the game as a pinch hitter, hit a two-run blast with two outs in the bottom of the ninth that capped a three-run rally to give the Golden Bears an 11-10 win over the Thorobreads. The victory gave Miles (17-15, 9-3 SIAC West) some breathing room over KSU (13-25, 7-5) in the battle for the Western Division's top seed in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament. Christopher Elias (2-2) picked up the win with 4 2/3 innings of relief while Connor Kelley (1-3) took the loss.

Miles trailed 10-8 heading into the bottom of the ninth. Gary Mason, Jr. led off with a double but was still standing on second two outs later. But Justin Bisharat singled to bring him in to trim the deficit. Brandon Conner was brought in to pinch run for Bisharat but he got a leisurely stroll around the bases when Adkison smoked Kelley's 2-2 offering out the park for his fifth home run of the season and the walk-off winner.

The two teams combined for 26 hits, three of them home runs. Kolby Brannon hit his first career dinger - a grand slam - as part of a five-run first that gave the Golden Bears a two-run edge. KSU would tie the score in the second on a two-run single by Brandon Story. A RBI single by Bisharat and a two-run single by Ryna Bargery put Miles back on top in the third, but a two-run single in the fifth and a two-run home run in the seventh - both by Artie Santomo - gave the Thorobreds a 10-7 advantage.

Bargery and Bisharat each had three hits and two RBI for Miles. Five different players had multi-hit games for KSU, led by Cameron Starks' three-hit effort.

Miles is back in action Tuesday when it travels to take on Alabama Huntsville in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
