MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- Miles continued to give up runs at an ugly rate in a doubleheader sweep, 20-5 and 14-3, to Montevallo (15-14) Tuesday afternoon at Johnson Field. The sweep gave the Golden Bears (9-12) three straight defeats and four in the last five games, allowing at least 12 runs in each of the losses. Xavius Burden and Darione Adkison each had three hits and a home run during the doubleheader to pace the Golden Bears.

GAME 1: Montevallo 20, Miles 5

Burden went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs but the Falcons scored at least four runs in four different innings to win going away.. Sebastian Samuels hit a 3-run homer as part of a four-run first inning of Miles starter Alex Bentley (0-1). Adkison would hit a solo home run in the second and Burden would add one in the third - both their third on the season -  to cut the deficit in half.

But Samuels would hit his second home run of the game - a solo shot - that was part of a 5-RBI day as the Falcons scored five runs in the third of Bentley, then added six more in the fourth off Cameron Honeycutt and Morgan Johnson to put the game out of  reach. Trevor Bates and Burden drove in runs as part of a 3-run fifth but Montevallo answered with six runs in the bottom of the frame off Johnson and Alex Foster to close out the scoring.

GAME 2: Montevallo 14, Miles 3

Reeves Brashear led off the game with his team-leading fifth home run of the season and Adkison drove in Ryan Bargery with a single to give the Golden Bears a 2-0 in the top of the first. But a 3-run home run by Jacob Whiting off Burden, who was came in to relieve Adam Lucas (0-1), highlighted a six-run third that broke open a tie game.

Trent Ridlehover hit a two-out double that scored Adkison to give the Golden Bears another run in the top of the fourth. But Trevor Bates entered in the bottom of the frame and faced seven batters but retired just one as the Falcons scored six more times to seal the victory.
