Baseball bashes West Alabama
Box Score
WARRIOR, Ala. -- Four days after scraping two singles in a loss at West Alabama, Miles fell in love with its offense in a 14-2 Valentine's Day bludgeoning of the Tigers at Corner High School.
The Golden Bears (5-2) rapped out 15 hits and scored the first 12 runs of the game against UWA (5-3).
Ryan Bargery had four hits and drove in two runs,
Alex Bentley added three hits and starter Matthew White (1-0) allowed two runs over seven innings to earn the win. The Tigers certainly helped the Miles cause, committing seven errors that led to six unearned runs.
Bentley and
Peyton Logan got the scoring started in the third with RBI singles before
Darione Adkison drove in two more with another hit to give Miles a 4-0 lead. In the fourth,
Trevor Bates and Bargery would each knock in a run in the second before
Reeves Brashears drove in his team-high ninth run to push the advantage to 7-0.
After Lary's removal in the third, UWA went to bullpen by committee but it was not enough to stop the Golden Bears onslaught as they would score five times in the seventh. Three errors - two on sacrifice bunts - opened the floodgates for Miles and the inning was capped with a RBI double from Bargery that plated
Roderick Ransom for a 12-0 lead.
That was plenty of support for White, who allowed five hits and walked six but had a shutout into the seventh before allowing two runs.
Morgan Johnson and William Donohoo shared two shutout innings to close out the win.
Bates had two RBI while Logan and Brashears each had two hits for Miles, which hosts a doubleheader against Tougaloo Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
