West Alabama hands Miles first loss
Box Score
LIVINGSTON, Ala. -- Miles had not trailed at any point in its first three games this season but West Alabama put a quick end to that in a 10-2 win over the Golden Bears on Friday.
The Tigers (3-2) scored six times against William Donohoo (1-1) in the second inning to take command while the Golden Bears (3-1) were only able to muster two hits against four UWA hurlers.
Trevor Bates, who is hitting .545, had a single in the third and a RBI single by
Ryan Bargery in the seventh were the only safeties.
Xavius Burden did walk three times and has a .615 on-base percentage through four games.
Miles had a chance to take the lead in the first but with two runners on,
Gary Mason, Jr. struck out to end the inning before UWA flexed its muscle in the second. Donohoo walked four and gave up three hits in the ill-fated frame, with two-out, two-run singles by Taylor Stafford and Dylan Little breaking the game open. The Golden Bears did get a solid relief outing from
Matthew White, who allowed just one run and struck out five in 3 1/3 innings.
The Golden Bears are back in action Sunday for their home opener at Rickwood Field, where they will host Virginia State in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
