MELBOURNE, Fla. -- Sheldon Wright scored a season-high 24 points and added five rebounds, four assists and seven steals, but it was not enough as Miles fell to 0-8 with a 107-87 loss to Florida Tech in its Winter Classic Monday evening.

The Golden Bears trailed by just eight at the half but the Panthers (5-6) shot 64 percent from the field in the second half to break the game open. Five players scored in double figures for FIT and three had double-doubles, including Sam Daniel, who finished with 37 points and 11 rebounds.

Nathan Sheffield scored eight points, all in the first five minutes, to help Miles to a 13-11 lead. Then, Jeffrey Dockett (14 points) came off the bench to score five straight points and the Golden Bears had an 18-15 advantage. But the Panthers took control from there, scoring on a plethora of layups and open jumpers, and held a 43-26 lead with 4:30 left in the first half.

Miles, though, would finish the first half with a flourish. Using a 12-0 run, the Golden Bears would get to within five points. But an offensive rebound and put back by Richard Coil (18 points, 12 rebounds) helped FIT to a 48-40 lead at the break. A bucket by Wright less than four minutes into the second half made the score 58-48 as the Golden Bears hung tough. But a backbreaking 18-3 run over the next five minutes put FIT in full command. The Panthers led by as many as 27 points late in the game before Miles closed the game on a 10-3 run.

Carl Garcia (14 points, four rebounds, five assists), Damian Archer (14 points) and Aron Stewart (10 points, eight rebounds) each scored in double figures for Miles, which plays Lynn in the final game of a three-game, eight-day Florida jaunt Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
