OZARK, Ala. -- A long day at the ball field on Saturday reared its ugly head on Sunday as Miles could not answer the bell against Stillman. After a 14-hour day that saw the Golden Bears win two games to stay alive in the 2016 SIAC Baseball Championships, an 8-0 deficit after two innings spelled doom in a 12-7 loss that ended the season.

Playing from the loser's bracket after the first day can play a toll on teams and Miles (32-17) was no exception. The Golden Bears used William Cassiday, who had not pitched this season, as the starter and Stillman went right to work. The Tigers scored twice in the first inning but it was the second inning that was most damaging. Stillman scored six times with help from three Miles errors and a 2-run home run from Hank Parker. Head coach Kenneth Hatcher was forced to go with Austin Pate before the second inning ended but by then, Miles was in a huge hole.

Miles started to fight back in the fourth, where they scored once, and fifth, where Xavius Burden's bases-loaded double cleared the bases and brought the Golden Bears to within 8-4. But it was too little, too late as stillman continued to tack on runs and Miles was unable to match.

Burden went 4-for-5 while seniors Justin Langdale (3-for-5), Keland Smith and Jimmy Brown, Jr. (both 2-for-5) had multi-hit games in their last appearance for the Golden Bears.
