OZARK, Ala. -- Miles was nine outs from elimination Friday when the SIAC's top offense finally came to life, scoring five times in the seventh inning to help secure a 7-4 win over Albany State. The victory not only advances the Golden Bears (30-16) to a Saturday elimination game against Paine at 9 a.m., it gave the program its first 30-win season in school history.

Miles trailed 4-1 going into the bottom of the seventh when it was finally able to rally. Darione Adkison, Xavius Burden and Jimmy Brown, Jr. started the inning with consecutive singles to load the bases. James Gardner followed with a single to plate two runs to bring the Golden Bears within a run and send Albany State starter Demarcus Green to the showers. The Golden Bears, though, continued to rain big hits on the Golden Rams - the East Division's No. 1 seed.

Two batter later, Ryan Bargery doubled to score two more to give Miles its first lead, 5-4. A fielding error scored Bargery to increase the advantage and Brown scored on another Albany State error in the eighth to give the Golden Bears some breathing room. Burden pitched the final 1 2/3 innings of hitless relief to earn the save for Dylan Johnson (4-4), who struggled early but allowed just four runs (two earned) in 7 1/3 innings.

Brown had three hits while Bargery and Gardner each had two hits for Miles. If the Golden Bears get past Paine, they will play again at 6 p.m.
