Box Score

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Florida Southern is one of the highest scoring teams in the country, averaging nearly 90 points per game. Miles attempted to keep pace Friday night at Jenkins Field House but was unable to overcome a slow start and 24-point deficit in the second half as they fell 92-76, the team's fourth straight defeat.

Sheldon Wright and Shaquille Cook were both 9-of-15 from the field, with Cook (21 points) having his way in the paint while Wright (career-high 22 points) was stroking from downtown (four 3-pointers). But Miles (2-7) took an early 2-0 advantage, the Moccasins (4-7) were knocking down shots from all over as the Golden Bears struggled to get good looks at the basket. FSC opened up a 30-11 lead and went into the half ahead 46-29.

A 3-pointer from Michael Volocic (18 points) gave the Moccasins a 24-point lead less than four minutes into the second half but Miles continued to fight. Several times, the Golden bears were able to get the deficit down to 12 points. But FSC would get a runout after a made Miles basket or find itself at the free throw line after one of several foul calls against the Golden Bears. With just more than seven minutes remaining in the game, Miles had been called for eight fouls in the second half while the Mocs had only been whistled once. Miles also was called for three technicals in the contests.

Jeremiah Davis had 21 points and seven rebounds to pace FSC. Chauncey Day had 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists, Carl Garcia had seven points, five rebounds and three assists and Eric Halliwell had four points and seven rebounds for Miles, which plays Eckerd College in the Tampa Classic on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
