CARROLLTON, Ga. -- Miles was hoping to duplicate its season-opening success from last year when they took on Lee at the Wentz Financial GSC-SIAC Classic Saturday afternoon at The Coliseum.

But while the opponent and location was the same as it was in 2015, the results did not match. Despite holding a slim halftime edge, the Golden Bears had no answer for Keevin Tyus in the second half as they fell 85-74. Tyus scored 23 of his 32 points in the second half as Miles (0-1) could not stop his work in the paint. Carl Garcia scored 16 points and Sheldon Wright drained five 3-pointers to pace the Golden Bears.

The first half saw both teams trade the lead several times and Miles never led by more than four points. Javier McKinney's fast break layup with 30 seconds left helped Miles take a 34-33 lead into the break. The teams traded baskets to start the second half and Garcia's bucket less than a minute into the second half kept the Golden Bears advantage at one point.

But Tyus would score on the ensuing possession o give the Flames (1-0) the lead for good. Miles would trail just 45-43 after a Shaquille Cook (six points, seven rebounds) bucket but an 8-0 run by the Flames would give them enough space to operate for the remainder of the contest. Lee would lead by as many as 17 points in the second half and the Golden Bears would never get any closer than seven points for the remainder of the game.

Chauncey Day scored 13 points and McKinney added eight points in their Golden Bears debuts. Miles will face host West Georgia tomorrow at 3 p.m.
