FORT VALLEY, Ga. -- Maiscei Grier scored 13 of his 22 points in the second half as Miles overcame a halftime deficit to earn a 76-68 win over Fort Valley State Saturday afternoon. The win was the fourth straight for the Golden Bears (12-9, 10-2 SIAC), who are also perfect in five conference road games.

Miles came out smoking in the first half, scoing 16 straight points - the last coming on a Grier 3-pointer - to take a 20-4 lead less than nine minutes into the contest. A Joshua Johnson (nine points, six assists) basket with 7:45 left in the half still staked the Golden Bears to a 28-15 advantage but the wheels fell off from there. The Wildcats (4-19, 2-11) erased the entire deficit and ended the half scoring the final seven points to take a 36-33 lead into the break.

But the Golden Bears were too much for FVSU over the final 20 minutes. Miles took the lead for good on two Johnson free throws less than four minutes into the second half and methodically dismantled the Wildcats as Grier's long-rang shooting (3-for-5 from 3-point arc) opened the interior for Miles. Aron Stewart's (six points, four rebounds) layup with just under 11 minutes remaining gave Miles a 56-43 lead and Fort Valley would not get closer than five points the rest of the contest.

Dareial Franklin had 20 points and nine rebounds to pace Fort Valley State. E. Reginald Smalls (13 points), Joshua Samuels (11 points) and Shaquille Cook (eight points, nine rebounds) all had strong efforts for Miles, which plays at Tuskegee Monday night.Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
