Golden Bears earn big road win at UNA
Box Score FLORENCE, Ala. - Miles continued its high-scoring ways,controling the game from the tip in earning a 90-84 win over North Alabama. Joshua Samuels and
E. Reginald Smalls each scored 17 points to pace the Golden Bears (2-2), who have scored at least 90 points in each game and are averaging more than 94 points a contest this season.
North Alabama (3-3) led for only 16 seconds of the entire game, but when
Maiscei Grier (six points, three rebounds) nailed a 3-pointer witjh 12:29 left in the first half, it gave Miles a 12-11 advantage and it would not trail again. The Golden Bears led 39-32 at halftime, thanks - in part - to scoring 18 points off of 11 UNA turnovers. The team also nailed seven from behind the arc, with Samuels and Smalls combining for five of them.
A 3-point play by Joshua Johnson and an offensive putback by Eric Halliwell two minutes into the second half punctuated a 9-2 run that gave Miles a 48-34 lead, the biggest of the game. The Golden Bears kept that double-digit advantage for most of the first 10 minutes of the final period. Twice, when UNA cut the lead down to four points, Miles had the answer. A 3-pointer by Samuels at the 12:35 mark gave the team some much-needed space. With 3:20 left, after the Lions pulled to within 77-73, back-to-back buckets by Smalls and Johnson effectively iced the contest.
Austin Timms scored 19 points to lead five scorers in double figures for UNA. Johnson scored 15 points and Halliwell added eight points and 10 rebounds for Miles, which hosts Morehouse on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
