MOBILE, Ala. -- The second SIAC Western Division Cluster of the season was the right remedy to heal some of the ills that have befallen the Miles volleyball team this season.

Entering the two-day, five-match marathon on an 8-match losing streak, the Golden Bears were able to get back on track with win in 2-of-3 matches Friday. Miles took straight-set wins over Lane and Central State sandwiched around a disappointing 5-set loss to LeMoyne-Owen after holding a 2-1 advantage.

Skyler Johnson had 27 kills, 21 digs, eight service aces and hit .239 over the three matches. Kayla Ford (77 assists,11 kills, 13 digs, 16 aces), Kamara Daughtry (team-high 25 digs, nine assists) and Alexis Reed (18 kills, four aces, two solo blocks, .214 hitting percentage) also played well for Miles (6-15, 6-11 SIAC).

The Golden Bears rolled through Lane (25-6, 25-11, 25-11) in the opening match. Miles hit a season-high .533 as a team, paced by Johnson (9-1-17, .471) and Antwaneisha Green (7-0-10, .700). Ford was also brilliant with 22 assists, 11 aces and eight digs as the victory snaped an eight-match skid.

As exhilirating as the first match was, the second match had to have matched in disappointment. Miles was in position to win in four sets but folded late before being rolled in the deciding set against LeMoyne-Owen (25-27, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 15-4). Johnson had a double-double (10 kills, 11 digs) while Reed and Genesis Daniels also had 10 kills each. Ford added 36 assists and Daughtry had a team-high 15 digs.

Miles was able to rebound against Central State (25-15, 25-20, 25-12). Skyler Johnson had a team-high eight kills, Alexus Moore added six kills while Eboni Johnson (5-2-9, .333) and Reed (5-2-8, .375) hit very well for the Golden Bears. Ford was also instrumental with 19 assists along with some great scoring work (6-3-10, .300).

The Golden Bears finish the Western Division Cluster on Saturday when they battle host Spring Hill and Kentucky State. Action begins at 10 a.m.
