Opportunity to Break Skid Slips Away
Box Score MOBILE, Ala. -- The losing streak continues for Miles' men's basketball team, which battled in the first half and was within striking distance in the second before ultimately falling 63-51 to Spring Hill College at the Outlaw Recreation Center Monday night.
Hasain Bunnell had 11 points and seven rebounds and
Maiscei Grier came off the bench to score a team-high 13 points but a late-game slide ended the Golden Bears' hope of ending what is now a 14-game losing streak. Jack Morrissey led Spring Hill with 13 points.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair. The two teams were tied five times and exchanged the lead 11 times. The Badgers (5-12, 4-4) opened a late five-point advantage but a 3-pointer by
Patrick Jackson (nine points, three rebounds) in the final minute brought Miles (1-14, 0-7) to within 29-27 at halftime.
Spring Hill ran out to a nine-point advantage to start the second half but Miles quickly fought back. Grier drained a 3-pointer less than five minutes into the half to cut the deficit to 34-33. With less than eight minutes to go, the Golden Bears were down just three points. But a near 7-minute drought without a basket allowed the Badgers to run out to a double-digit advantage and run away with the victory.
William Gray scored six points and grabbed five rebounds for Miles, which plays again on Jan. 26 when it hosts Stillman. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
