The overall effort continues to improve for a rebuilding Miles program but the wins still remain hard to come by.

The Golden Bears were able to erase a first half, double-digit deficit but were unable to do it in the second half as Morehouse handed Miles its 10th straight defeat, 70-61, at Knox-Windham Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. Maiscei Grier scored a game-high 19 points and Nahum Lockett scored 15 points off the bench for Miles (1-10, 0-4 SIAC). Tyrius Walker led the Maroon Tigers (6-5, 4-0) with 18 points.

Miles never led in the first half and trailed by 14 with 4:21 left in the period. But Morehouse would not score another point and the Golden Bears trailed just 34-32 at the break. Powel Jasnos (six points, four rebounds) scored on the opening possession of the second half and Hasain Bunnell (11 points, seven rebounds) converted a 3-point play to finish a 17-0 run that gave the Golden Bears a 37-34 advantage 90 seconds after halftime.

But the Maroon Tigers acquitted themselves nicely. An 8-0 run put them back on top to stay. The lead was back to double digits at the midway point of the second half when Bryan Thomas' breakaway dunk put Morehouse ahead 54-43. Miles was still down 60-50 with 5:50 remaining before it made a final push. Patrick Jackson scored his only points on two free throws with 3:15 left and the Golden Bears cut the deficit to 60-53. They had a couple of opportunities to get close but never did as Morehouse hit its last six free throws to ice the victory.

Miles is back in action Monday night when it concludes its three-game homestand by hosting Benedict. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
