Montevallo Downs Miles Again
Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- For the second time this season, Miles men's basketball team gave Montevallo all it could handle. Unfortunately, the second contest did not produce a different result from the first.
The Falcons took control of a tight matchup in the second half and pulled away with a 90-81 win over the Golden Bears at Trustmark Arena on Saturday afternoon. The loss was the fourth straight for the Miles (1-4), which got a team-high 21 points off the bench from Maiscei Greer and a solid all-around performance from Albert Peterson (10 points, eight rebounds, five assists).Troran Brown, who did not play in the first game between the two teams, scored 27 points and added 10 assists and seven rebounds to pace the Falcons.
A layup by Larry Butler (17 points, seven rebounds) early in the second half gave Miles a 47-42 advantage, its largest of the game. But the Falcons (4-5) ran off 13 consecutive points to turn the tide. Still, the Golden Bears battled back with their own 10-2 run, punctuated by a 3-pointer by Greer that gave Miles a 57-66 lead with with less than 12 minutes to go. But another cold spell, this time a 4-minute stretch without a field goal, put Montevallo in complete control as it opened a 12-point lead. The Falcons would lead by as many a 13 points down the stretch and the Golden Bears never got closer than five points the rest of the way.
Miles shot 44 percent from the floor and more than 47 percent on 3-point attempts but was easily handled on the boards (48-35). The Golden Bears are back in action on Dec. 17 when they continue their early-season road trek at Saint Leo.
