LAKELAND, Fla. -- After the final buzzer sounded in Miles' 93-57 loss to Florida Southern Sunday afternoon, the Golden Bears bid adieu to the 2014 portion of this season's schedule. They are certainly hoping for much better results in 2015 after trailing by 30 at halftime to the No. 2 team in Division II en route to a sixth consecutive defeat.

Maiscei Greer had a game-high 23 points to lead the Golden Bears (1-6) but the Moccasins (11-0) had five players score in double figures and hit 11 3-pointers. Miles held the Mocs to 37 percent shooting from the field but turned the ball over 25 times, which led to 36 points for FSC, and itself shot just 32 percent from the floor.

Greer hit the first shot of the game - a 3-pointer - to give Miles the early lead. Unfortunately, it would be short-lived. FSC took the lead for good a minute later, then used a 12-2 spurt to open an 18-7 advantage six minutes into the contest. Patrick Jackson (13 points) would connect to cut the deficit to nine but the Mocs scored the next 11 points and allowed just two Golden Bears baskets over the next 10 minutes to take complete control of the contest. FSC lead by as many as 31 in the opening half and went into the locker room with a 55-25 halftime advantage.

When head coach Leon Douglas shows his team the film from the first half, he will be able to point out that the turnovers made it very easy for Florida Southern to make the game a rout. The Mocs scored 27 points off turnovers in the opening 20 minutes. While the Golden Bears did a better job of protecting the ball in the second half, they never got the deficit under 30 points for the remainder of the contest.

Brandon Jack had nine points and a team-high eight rebounds off the bench for Miles, which will open SIACplay on the road against Claflin on Jan. 3. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
