MILES ELIMINATE ALBANY STATE FROM 2013 SIAC BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Box Score OZARK, AL (April 26, 2013) - Miles continued its SIAC Baseball Tournament hot-streak by exploding for nine runs in the fourth inning in route to a 14-1 win over Albany State in Friday morning's elimination game at Historic Eagle Stadium in Ozark, AL.
Justin Bartley and
Courtney Kelley each had three hits and three RBIs, while
Brett Nelson (4-2) picked up the win for the Golden Bears, where by the team has now scored 43 runs in three games of the tournament.
The Golden Bears will face the winner of the Paine/Benedict game tonight at 6 p.m.
It was a promising start for Albany State until pitching and defensive blunders opened up the scoring by Miles in the fourth inning.
Jared Arrington threw three solid innings and struck out six batters before a routine ground ball was mishandled by Golden Rams shortstop Allen Hardy, which led to the first scored run of the game. Four hits and four bases loaded walks later, Albany State found itself in a 9-0 hole. The Golden Rams never recovered as the Golden Bears added three runs in the fifth inning and two additional runs in the sixth to end the game in the seventh inning, by virtue of the 10-run rule.
Miles improved to 18-27 for the year and Albany State, the SIAC East Division Champions, finished the year 14-20.
