SIAC Softball Championship Day 3 Recap: Miles Returns to Championship Game, Awaits Albany State/Stillman winner

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Hampton, GA (April 20, 2013) — Miles College Lady Bears punched its ticket into the 2013 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Softball Championship by defeating Clark Atlanta University (14-7) and Stillman College (2-0) on Saturday afternoon at the Gerald Matthews Sports Complex.

The top-seed out of the West Division rode the arm of their ace, snior pitcher Amanda Talley (Pinson, AL), who pitched two complete games to put Miles in a position to claim its second consecutive SIAC Championship. In her three tournament wins, Talley has pitched two shut outs and ERA of 1.67.

After losing in the second round to Fort Valley State University, #1E Albany State slugged its way back into title contention by winning four consecutive games over #5E Benedict, 3W Kentucky State, and #3E Clark Atlanta and now will face #2W Stillman tomorrow at 10 a.m. For the tournament, Albany State has hit an alarming 26 home runs. On the mound, Alex Lopez has compiled a record of 4-1.

The Lady Tigers from Tuscaloosa defeated #4E Fort Valley State 12-5, but suffered a heart-breaking defeat to Miles in the semifinals of the SIAC Championship. In the lost to the Lady Bears, a costly era, which resulted in the games only runs, were the determining factor in the lost.

With a win over Albany State, Stillman will remain in the hunt for its first title in school history. Anchoring the team is its pitcher Ashley Savage, who has been unconscious on the mound. The All-Conference selection has posted a 2-1 record during the tournament.
