MILES DEFEAT TUSKEGEE IN ELIMINATION GAME

Box Score OZARK, AL – The Miles College Golden Bears (23-17) eliminated the Golden Tigers of Tuskegee University (13-28) 9-8 in second round play on Friday, in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Baseball Championships with a ninth inning come from behind win. 

Mile's Justin Bartley (6-1) work 1.2 innings striking out two and walking two for the win, while allowing one hit and zero runs. Cody Currul started the game for Miles, while giving up three runs on one hit, two strikeouts and five walks, Justin Langdale followed suit with 4.1 innings pitched, three runs and six walks and Randall Cole entered the game with two runs allowed in 0.1 inning.

Tuskegee's Cameron Duncan (0-1) went 0.2 innings for the loss, as he relieved William Buford. Buford pitched 4.1 innings and allowed one run on three hits and five walks, Jeremy Williams gave up two runs and John Bryant the starter went 4.0 innings with six runs allowed on five hits and four walks.

Miles took an early lead in the top of the first inning, as Justin Langdale and Kelend Smith singled, Justin Bartley reached base on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on an error. Smith was out at second and Jones advanced to third and scored on the throw for a 1-0 lead.

Miles scored another run in the third when Courtney Kelley's walk, Langdale single and advanced to second on an error and Kelley scored.

Tuskegee answered with three runs in the bottom half of the third inning. Tevin Worthy and Danny Barnes walked, Cash Oliver singled and Worthy scored. Gene Moody, Cameron Duncan and Samuel Rodney walked to score Barnes and Moody for a 2-3 score.

Tuskegee scored a run in the fourth and another run in the fifth for a 2-5 score.

Miles answered back with six runs in the top half of the fifth inning. Kelley walked; Langdale was hit by a pitch, Jones walked to load the bases. Brett Nelson doubled to left center to score Kelley, Langdale and Jones. Justin Bartley homered to score two runs. Joshua Grooms walked, Jeremy Lee was hit by a pitch moving Grooms to second, Grooms scored on Anthony Jones single for an 8-5 score.

Tuskegee scored three more run in the eight, as Buford was hit by a pitch, and then scored on Oliver's triple to center field. Oliver scored on a ground out to second by Williams. Moody tripled to left field and scored Tuskegee's final run on Duncan's single for the tie at 8-8.

Miles scored the winning run in the top half of the ninth inning, when Kelley singled, Langdale walked and Jeffery Jones was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Nelson walked to score Kelley for the win.

Miles will face Kentucky State at 9 a.m. on Saturday in an elimination game. A win will keep the Golden Bears alive in the tournament and play the winner of the Paine/Claflin game at 6 p.m.
