2012 SIAC SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 HAMPTON, Georgia (April 19, 2012) – Day One of the 2012 SIAC Softball Championship opened with all twelve teams in action.  Divisional rivalries and a couple of upsets highlighted the action of day one.

Game #20: Miles defeated Tuskegee 9-1 (Tuskegee eliminated)

Day three began with the Miles College Lady Bears taking on the Tuskegee Tigerettes.  Miles used three home runs to top Tuskegee 9-1 and move on in tournament play.

Miles (26-26) got home runs from Terri Roberts (second inning), Tiffany Roberts (third inning) and a fourth-inning grand slam from Brianna Barrentine to keep the Tigerettes at bay.

Tuskegee would score in the top of the first inning when Tameria Brown would reach on an error scoring Trenisha Holmes.

Miles's Amanda Talley (10-7) worked seven innings striking out five for the win, while Latifah Kelly worked seven innings striking out five and walking two for Tuskegee.

Game #21: Miles defeated Kentucky State 2-1 (Kentucky State eliminated)

In the final game of the elimination bracket, Miles defeated Kentucky State 2-1.

After four scoreless innings, Miles plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run single by Katie Haisten.

Kentucky State scored in the top of the sixth as Shenaaz Burrell blasted a shot over the left field fence.

Miles's Kayla Bowmaster (11-7) got the win working 5 1/3 innings on the mound.  Lorena Villamar (9-8) struck out three and walked one in six innings on the mound for Kentucky State.

Game #22:  Miles defeated Stillman 9-4 in game one of the championship

Miles got four home runs - including two by Terri Roberts - as they staged off elimination and forced a "winner-take-all" contest with a 9-4 win over Stillman.

Terri Roberts belted a three-run home run over the center field fence in the top of the second, then returned to revisit the long ball with a solo shot in the fourth inning.

Brittney Mitchell hit a solo shot over the left field fence in the top of the seventh before Brianna Barrentine ripped a two-run shot over the right center field fence two batters later.

Stillman attempted to keep the game close; scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI hits by Aubree Holt and Gabrielle Quarles.

Januar Page reached on an error and scored in the fifth before - in the sixth - pinch hitter Michaela Norman hit a solo shot over the right center field fence.

Amanda Talley (11-7) worked 5 1/3 innings striking out five and walking one for Miles.  Ashley Savage (16-7) worked 6 1/3 innings striking out five and walking three for Stillman.

Miles and Stillman will meet again Sunday at 10 a.m. to decide the 2012 SIAC Softball Championship.
