MILES OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY WITH DOUBLEHEADER WIN OVER LEMOYNE-OWEN

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FAIRFIELD, AL - The Miles College Golden Bears (8-5; 2-0) baseball team open conference play with an 11-4 and 9-3 doubleheader win over LeMoyne-Owen College Magicians (0-13; 0-2) this afternoon at Rickwood Field.

Cody Currul (3-1) gave up four runs (three earned) in game one for the victory while going five inning and giving up four hits. Jeffery Jones completed two innings with no runs allowed. Reginald Moore picked up the loss in four innings, while giving up nine runs (three earned) and seven hits.

Kelend Smith led the Golden Bears with a 2-for-3 day at the plate and a three run homerun, double and scored two runs. Justin Bartley and Braden Glass scored two runs apiece.

Austin Williams (3-3) went the distance for the win in game two, while striking –out five batters and giving up three runs (none earned) on four hits. Nicholas Ester (0-2) got the loss for LOC in 5.1 inning pitched. Ester gave up eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits.

Bartley went 3-for-4, scored two runs and had three RBI's for the Golden Bears, while Courtney Kelley was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one run batted in. Anthony Jones was 2-for-3 and scored a run.

The Golden Bears will play the Magicians again tomorrow in a single game at Rickwood Field at 1 p.m.
