GOLDEN BEARS SWEEP THREE GAME SERIE FROM MOREHOUSE

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Miles College Golden Bears (15-10; 9-0 SIAC) baseball team took three conference games this weekend from the Maroon Tigers of Morehouse College (5-15; 1-8 SIAC) 5-4, 13-4 and 14-9 at Rickwood Field.

The Maroon Tigers scored first with one run in the second and three in the third innings and Miles would not score until the third with one run and one run in the fifth and three runs in the six of game one.

In game two, Miles scored one run in the first, four in the second, three in the fourth and five in the six, while Morehouse did get on the score board until the third with one run, another in the fifth and two in the six innings.

Sunday, the Golden Bears scored in each of the eight innings and Morehouse scored from the fourth inning on with two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, two in the six and four runs in the seventh. Miles scored one run in the first, third, fourth, fifth and six innings and five runs in the second and two runs each in the seventh and eight.

Senior Patrick Melvin and junior Jeffery Jones led the Golden Bears over the three game series while going 4-for 8 at the plate and five RBI's each. Jones scored four times and Melvin three times. Several players had one hit apice in each game, but sophomore Courtney Kelley crossed the plate nine times for the Golden Bears.

For Miles in game one sophomore Bradley McWilliams (6-3) got the win while going seven innings giving up four runs on eight hits. Game two, junior Don Mack (3-3) went the distance for the win, giving up eight hits and striking out nine batters. Melvin picked up the win in game three and Jeffery Jones got the save. Melvin went five innings and allowed three runs on three hits and Jones threw four innings and gave up one earned run off seven hits.
