Joseph Killins, a former Miles College Golden Bear linebacker, collapsed at a Central park nightclub and was pronounced dead early Friday at a Birmingham hospital.

Jefferson County Corner Pat Curry said Killins was on the dance floor, when he collapsed.  He was taken to Princeton Baptist Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 1:06 a.m.

Killins, 25, played for the Rome, Georgia Renegades, an American Indoor Football League Team, where he was a linebacker and fullback on last year's team.

“We are extremely shocked and devastated at the loss of Joe. He was a valued member of the Renegades family,” said head coach David Humphreys.

Killins in 2005 had 52 tackles, three sacks and an interception. He scored four rushing touchdowns on offense.

Killins attended Miles College, where he played linebacker for the Golden Bears from (1998-2001) and was a three-year captain, as well as two-time team most valuable player.  He was an All-SIAC Conference Player.

Joseph Killins was a graduate of Jackson-Olin High School, where he was a football standout.
