Junior pitcher/infielder Amanda Talley (5’6) for the Lady Bears softball team has been named Golden Bears Player of the Week, respectively, after being named to the 2012 Daktronics All-South Region Second Team. It is the first honor of the season for Talley and the first for the Miles softball team.
Talley, a native of Pinson, AL, played in 52 games this season with a .254 batting average. She scored 29 times, 33 hits, 3 doubles, 26 RBI’s, 42 base-on-balls and went 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts. On the mound, Talley had an 11-9 win record and 6.25 ERA. She appeared in 25 games (started 15), 118 innings pitched, allowed 169 hits, 97 runs, 82 earned runs, 16 base-on-balls, 60 strikeouts and 27 homeruns. Talley finished 10th in the SIAC with 11 wins, while finishing tied for second with 10 games in relief during the 2012 season. The 5-foot-6 junior also finished with 60 strikeouts, including 19 with the batter looking which ranked tenth in the SIAC. Talley helped the Lady Bears to a 29-28 overall record, 19-7 in the SIAC, while capturing the 2012 SIAC Softball Championship and an appearance in the NCAA South Regional in Valdosta, GA.
