D’jari Nelson, a 6’7 junior forward for the Golden Bears basketball team has been named the MilesGoldenBears.com Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, January 2, 2011. It’s the first honor of the season for Nelson and the second for the Miles men’s basketball team.
The Chicago, IL native led the Golden Bears (3-4; 1-4) in scoring as Miles dropped its fourth conference game to Paine College 43-50 in Monday night basketball game. Nelson scored a team-high nine points, seven rebounds, one steal and blocked two shots. Nelson hit 1-of-3 free throws and scored on 4-of-6 shots from the field.
Nelson is ranked 7th in rebounding, 2nd in field goal percentage, and 3rd in blocked shots and 2nd in offensive rebounding in the SIAC. He is 194 in rebounds per game and 22nd in blocked shots per game in the NCAA.
