HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --
Karea Copeland had her 14th consecutive match in double-figure kills and posted a double-double (19 kills, 12 digs) for the third straight time as Miles dispatched Oakwood in three sets (25-11, 25-17, 25-19). The win was the fourth straight for the Lady Bears (14-4), who have now won 9-of-10 against the Lady Ambassadors (5-10).
Copeland took over early, scoring on feeds from
Cydney Moore (14 assists, 11 digs) for five of the Lady Bears six first points. A block by
Nevaeh Bellamy and a kill by
Aida Edwards put the first set away with relative ease. The second set was much of the same. Oakwood trailed by just two points before Miles rattled off seven straight to put the second set out of reach.
Addisyn Doss had a kill and a combo block with
Destinee Evans (six kills, .308 hitting percentage) during the run and the Lady Ambassadors committed several errors to help the cause.
The final set was the most competitive. After trailing early, Oakwood scored five straight points to take a lead for the first time at 9-7. Down 16-15, the Lady Bears pushed back in front with five straight points.
Cydney Jolivette's kill gave Miles the lead for good and two service aces by
Alyzia Cola helped push the advantage to 20-16. It was Cola (12 assists) who set Copeland for her 19th and final kill to finish the match.
Bailey Jones had 15 digs and
Kyla Knox added 13 digs for Miles, which will play this weekend at the SIAC Crossover event on Friday and Saturday at Central State.
