Davis, White win SIAC weekly football awards

Miles defensive back Antonio White, Jr. and placekicker Rourke Davis were honored by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on Tuesday for their performances against Savannah State. White was named Newcomer of the Week and Davis was named Special Teams Player of the Week.

White, a sophomore from Snellville, Ga.,delivered the game-sealing play in Miles College's road victory over Savannah State. White finished with five total tackles, including four solo stops, added a pass breakup, and recorded a 21-yard interception return. With Savannah State driving for a potential late score in the final minute of the fourth quarter, White intercepted a pass in the end zone to end the scoring threat and secure the victory for the Golden Bears. His clutch interception was one of four turnovers forced by the Miles defense and capped a strong performance by the sophomore defensive back in a critical conference road win.

Davis, a sophomore from Tampa, Fla., scored 13 points in the Golden Bears' 25-17 win over the Tigers. He booted a career-high four field goals and an extra points to amass more than half of the team's point total, with made kicks from 42 yards in the first quarter, 46 yards in the second quarter, 29 yards in the third quarter, and the last from 26 yards with less than two minutes remaining in the contest that gave Miles its final margin of victory.

White, Davis and the rest of the Golden Bears are back in action on Saturday when they face Lane for Homecoming. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
