After a hot start to the 2025-26 campaign, the Miles men's basketball program has hit a bit of a lull since the first semester ended. While the road has been a bit rocky, the Golden Bears are looking to get back in gear as they make their push towards the postseason. That will begin with a road game tonight at Benedict.
Miles started the season by winning its first eight contests and garnering a national ranking but has gone 6-5 since Dec. 19. Some of that regression can be contributed to lineup changes that have impacted the team's fluidity. Tonight, the Golden Bears will play without guards
Tyon Thompson (who has been out with a leg injury since early January), one of his replacements,
Frankie Idlett, who averaged 13 points per game as a starter but has not played since Jan. 19, and forward
Cameron Jernigan, who leads the team in rebounds and blocked shots but has missed a few games tending to some personal matters. All told, that's 32 points and 16 rebounds per game missing from the floor for Miles.
But the Golden Bears will look to lean on the likes of
Najashi Tolefree,
David Williams and
Isaiah Jones to fortify the team until the cavalry returns. Those three combined for 31 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists when Miles took down Benedict on Dec. 11. Tolefree (16.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists) and Williams (12.1 points, 3.2 assists, 40 percent 3-point shooting) are the top offensive cogs and floor leaders looking to get the team back on track.
The action begins with the Golden Bears set to tip at approximately 6:30 p.m.
