Miles got stellar pitching and used an offense that scored 19 runs with nine extra-base hits in taking down Talladega 8-0 and 11-3 Tuesday afternoon at Bill Noble Park in the season opener for both squads. Both games culminated in five-inning, run-rule victories for the Lady Bears (2-0).

In the opener, Delaney Gray (1-0) was masterful in the circle, allowing just two hits with no walks while striking out 11 of the 17 batters she faced in her first career start with the Lady Bears. She also went 3-for-3 at the plate, with her RBI single topping off a four-run first inning. Daisy Bejerano also went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases, Gabriela Garcia hit a solo home run in the second, Mia Vazquez went 2-for-2 and scored twice, and Andrea Harris ended the game with an infield single that scored Jada Odom.

In the nightcap, it was more of the same. Miles scored seven times in the first inning with Garcia, Gray and Odom both getting two-run knocks. The Lady Bears closed the game out in the bottom of the fifth with one swing as Kaylyn Cordero doubled to right center to plate Cassie Willis, Vazquez and Trinity Okedele, (who drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the second). Anndria Kay (1-0) got the complete-game win in the circle, allowing six hits and two earned runs and striking out seven.

The Lady Bears are back in action on Saturday when they host Christian Brothers in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
