MONTGOMERY, Ala. —  The Miles volleyball team rallied from an opening-set loss to defeat Huntingdon in four sets (19-25, 25-19, 25-18 and 25-23) Tuesday night at Catherine Dixon Roland Arena. The Lady Bears (22-7) have now won five straight matches and 8-of-10 in taking down the Hawks (6-10) in the first meeting between the two schools since 2017.
Miles responded to Huntingdon's strong start with a more composed performance in the second set. After dropping the opener, the Lady Bears regrouped to take the third and fourth sets in convincing fashion. The fourth set proved more competitive as Huntingdon fought to extend the contest. However, with the score tied at 15, Miles went on a 7-2 run, aided by five Huntingdon errors. The Hawks fought off two match points but the Lady Bears closed it out when Destinee Evans finished a feed from Alyzia Cola to close out the match.
Karea Copeland led the Golden Bears offensively with 12 kills and added 12 digs for a double-double. Edwards contributed eight kills, while Jaharia Hunter recorded six kills to support the Miles attack. Cola orchestrated the offense with 29 assists and contributed two service aces. Defensively, Bailey Jones paced the Golden Bears with 23 digs, while Evans recorded four blocks and Edwards added three.
Miles is back in action on Thursday when it travels to take on Tuskegee. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
