WILBERFORCE, Ohio -- A lot of streaks came to an end for the Golden Bears in a 65-58 loss to Central State Saturday afternoon at Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium.
No. 21 Miles (8-2, 6-2 SIAC West) lost for the first time at Central State in almost eight years and ended a 12-game win streak over the Marauders (4-8, 3-5), who had not beaten the Golden Bears since Feb. 19, 2018. The defeat also marked the first time in 48 games that Miles had dropped consecutive contests, which dates back to two straight losses to Kentucky State and Tuskegee in the 2023-24 campaign.
The game was close throughout. The teams were tied at 29 entering halftime and two free throws from
Frankie Idlett (seven points, four assists) gave Miles a 41-38 lead with 15:24 remaining. But Central State then used an 8-0 surge over the next two-and-a-half minutes to take the lead for good. Idlett, who played a season-high 25 minutes off the bench, would get an offensive rebound and putback midway through the second half to bring the Golden bears to within 50-48, but they never got closer as the Marauders stretched the lead as high as 10 points late in the contest.
Javante Randle had a game-high 19 points to lead Central State.
Cameron Jernigan (13 points, three rebounds) was the only double-digit scorer for Miles, which travels to face Kentucky State on Monday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
