When Miles and Tuskegee play against each other, it brings out big crowds and elicits big reactions from their respective fan bases. With both schools currently among the top two teams in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference West Division in both men's and women's basketball, it should set up for an exciting afternoon of action on Saturday at Knox-Windham Gymnasium.
The venerable home of the Lady Bears and Golden Bears has a small seating capacity limit and arriving early will be crucial if fans want to be a big part of the action. School officials anticipate the game will be sold out. Tickets will only be sold at the door on Saturday and will cost $20. For those who cannot make it in person, the contests will be streamed live on the Golden Bears Sports Network. Either way, fans should expect to see some great action in both games.
The Lady Bears (14-2, 12-1) are ranked No. 21 in the country and have won six straight games overall in taking a two-and-a-half game lead over Lane and three games over Tuskegee (9-5, 9-4) in the SIAC West Division race. Miles is second in the conference in scoring (74.4) and tops in margin of victory (15.6), certainly helped by a 96-62 win over Albany State on Tuesday night. Defensively, the Lady Bears are the best in the league in opponent field goal percentage and 3-point field goal percentage while also the No. 1 team in the SIAC in rebounds per game. The women tip off at 1 p.m.
The Golden Bears (12-2, 10-2) are back on the right track after dropping two straight and are currently on a four-game win streak. But that is only enough to occupy second place in the West Division behind a Tuskegee (12-3, 11-1) squad that has won six in-a-row. The battle for the division lead may come down to the style that gets employed during the contest. Miles is fourth in the lead in scoring (73.4), second in rebounds (39.4) and first in scoring margin (7.7) and field goal percentage (46.6). The Golden Tigers lead the SIAC in total rebounds (39.5), rebounds margin (8.4) and is second in scoring defense (61.9) and scoring margin (5.8). The men are set to begin at 3 p.m.
Both the men's and women's basketball teams will also look to protect long home-court win streaks on Saturday. TheLady Bears have won 11 straight at home and are 33-3 at Knox-Windham Gymnasium since the 2023-24 season. The Golden Bears have won 26 consecutive home contests, a streak that dates back to Jan. 29, 2024 against Spring Hill. Tuskegee was the last team to win at Knox-Windham on a buzzer beater two days prior and are the only team to beat Miles at home in their previous 41 home games.
