Golden Bears win Bridgestone HBCU Invitational

ATLANTA -- For the first time, Miles has won the Bridgestone HBCU Invitational Division II title, held at the TPC Sugarloaf course.

The Golden Bears finished the three-day event at 38-over 902, 16 shots clear of second-place Winston-Salem State. Miles shot 298 in the opening round to take a three-stroke lead and increased its advantage to 11 strokes after the second round. Morehouse, which finished third out of five teams, shot 295 in the second round and was two shots better over the final two rounds, but could not overcome the 23-stroke deficit after the opening round.

Adrian Maya, playing in his first tournament for the Golden Bears, shot an even-par 72 in the final round to win the top medalist honor in come-from-behind fashion. He entered the final round in third place but shot 2-under over the first 10 holes and gained six shots on leader Godfrey Nsubga of Winston-Salem State and three shots on second-place D'Yanni Rhyne of Johnson C. Smith. Maya would shoot 2-over over the final eight holes to hold off a late surge from Nsubga to earn the crown.

Miles placed four golfers in the top seven, with Jerris Baker (+12, 228, t-4th), Zostrianos Giordani-Gross (+13, 229, 6th) and Jeremiah Bianchi (+14, 230, t-7th) all towards the top of the leaderboard. Malachi Green (+18, 234) finished tied for 12th.
