Copeland picks up a pair of honors



Miles outside hitter Karea Copeland won two weekly awards from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference today, earning Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Week for her performance last week with the Lady Bears.

In two matches that covered eight sets, the freshman from Newnan, Ga. averaged 15 kills and hit .270 as the Lady Bears won both matches this past week. In a five-setter at Stillman, Copeland had 19 kills, 14 digs and 2 blocks. In a straight-set home win against Tougaloo, she hit .391 (12-3-23) with three assists, four service aces, three digs and a block. 

This season, Copeland has shown to be one of the top performers in the SIAC. She is currently fourth in kills per set (3.2) and second in total points (96.5). HEr 19 kills against Stillman is tied for fifth-highest in a single match this season and her 12 kills in the sweep of Tougaloo is the most in three-set matches.

The Lady Bears are back in action this weekend when they participate in the SIAC East/West Crossover in Albany, Ga.
