Lady Bears earn NCAA bid 2025

Lady Bears head to Tennesse for NCAA regional

The Miles women's basketball team has won back-to-back Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament titles, and now it has learned who its opponent is for its automatic berth into the NCAA Division II South Region tournament.

The Lady Bears, which earned the eighth seed in the tourney, will face top-seeded Union in the opening round. The Lady Bulldogs, winners of the Gulf South Conference, will host the tournament and play will begin on Friday, Mar. 14. The schedule for the games, as well as ticket and live streaming information, will be released by the host institution and made available at milesgoldenbears.com.

As in last year's regional, this will mark the first time Miles has played against its opponent. Even more interesting, Union is 15-0 since 2001 against teams currently in the SIAC and have not lost to a Historically Black College and University in 55 games during that period. Coming into the tournament, Union is 29-3 and is currently on a 15-game winning streak. The Lady Bulldogs are ranked No. 12 in the most recent WBCA rankings. Union is No. 2 in Division II in scoring (85.0) and get it done shooting the 3-pointer. It is the only school in Division II to shoot more than 1,000 3-pointers this season and are among the best teams in converting those attempts (34.8 percent). The Lady Bulldogs are also No. 5 in forcing turnovers.

But the Lady Bears are 22-6, the second-most single-season wins in program history, and have won their last nine games by an average of 19.6 points per game. Miles is top-5 in the country in defending the 3-point shot and overall defensive field goal percentage. The Lady Bears are also among the top-25 in the country in allowing points, rebounding, and forcing turnovers.
