MOBILE, Ala. -- Miles got into the win column for the first time this season as it opened conference play at defending SIAC champion Spring Hill. The Lady Bears won the second game 9-3 but dropped the series with losses in the opening and rubber games of the three-game set.
GAME 1 - Spring Hill 6, Miles 2
Genia Hall singled to drive in
Skylar Jones and she would score on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning to give Miles an early 2-0 advantage. But the Badgers scored three in the first and three more in the second off starter
Desalynn Nesbitt, who allowed only six hits and four earned runs in pitching the complete game. But the Lady Bears were only able to muster two more hits after the first inning and were unable to overcome the early offense from Spring Hill.
GAME 2 -Â Miles 9, Spring Hill 3
The Lady Bears had their best offensive output of the season, scoring four times in the sixth and seventh innings to secure their first victory. Miles never trailed, getting a RBI single from
Takyla Smoot in the fifth to grab the lead. Spring Hill's defense did not do itself any favors, committing six errors in the contest and Miles took complete advantage.
In the sixth, Nesbitt led off with a double and her courtesy runner, Jones, would score on a single by
Jada Bradford.. Two errors and a passed ball allowed Miles to get RBI from
Jordan Davis, Smoot and Hall to expand the lead to 5-1. The Badgers would score three times in the bottom of the frame against
Shakayla Terry but she stayed solid, striking out four and allowing just five hits in earning the victory. Miles added four more insurance runs in the seventh, with RBI by
Michelle Tanks and Smoot before Makayla Williams tripled to drive in Smoot and Davis.
GAME 3 - Spring Hill 11, Miles 0 (6)
Miles did not have much luck against Spring Hill's Emma Curry, who allowed just five singles and struck out seven in the complete game victory. The Badgers had three innings where they posted crooked numbers, the last coming in the sixth when Bethany Ahrens hit a grand slam that allowed SHC to win via run-rule.
