Lady Bears race to front at Doc Anderson Invitational

TROY, Ala. -- Miles continued its impressive outdoor track and field season with a strong performance at the Doc Anderson Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Bears, competing in field that saw five Division I schools that entered competitors, as well as four Division II programs, finished fifth among the 10 NCAA programs that competed with 54 total points. That was the second-best output among the four Division II schools and was the best of the three Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference programs that were entered.

Junior sprinter Kiersten Clark has continued to show that she is one of the best runners in each field she has entered this year. Clark won the 200 meters in 24.81 seconds, .47 second ahead of the field. She took third in the 100 meters in 11.77 seconds, which is top-20 in NCAA Division II this year. She anchored the 4x100 relay, which included senior Jurni Cummings, sophomore Kayla Robinson, and freshman Kamora Taylor, as Miles won in 47.41 seconds, nearly two seconds in front of second-place Tuskegee. Finally, Clark helped the 4x400 relay team - with Cummings, Robinson, and freshman Raven Maxwell - finish third (behind two Division I schools), with a top-100 time in Division II, knocking nearly four seconds off the previous best time this season. Those performances accounted for 32 points.

Taylor picked up three points by finishing seventh in the 200 (26.04) and eighth in the 100 (12.29). Miles picked up seven more points in the 400 as Cummings (1:00.69) finished fifth and Maxwell (1:03.00) took sixth. Freshman Laila Hester added seven points in jumps, finishing fourth in the high jump (4 '10 1/4") and fifth in the long jump (15' 5"). Madison Lee added more points as she finished fifth in the long jump (15' 2 3/4"), which was a personal best for her.

Joining Lee with personal best performances were Cummings and Maxwell in the 400, junior Jai Gaines in the javelin throw (92' 5", 10th), and sophomore Alexia Turner in the 800 (2:38.12, 10th).
