Miles defensive backs coach
Antonio Langham has joined the ranks of the college football immortals after being chosen to the College Football Hall of Fame Class of 2024. His selection was announced on Monday by the National Football Foundation.
Langham, in his first year at Miles, was certainly one of the greats at the University of Alabama, where he made a name for himself by making big plays at the most crucial moments. As a junior in 1992, Langham had interceptions that he returned for touchdowns in back-to-back weeks, starting with the Iron Bowl against Auburn followed by a pick-6 that was the difference in the inaugural SEC Championship game at Legion Field. He was named the Most Valuable Player in that game as the Crimson Tide defeated Florida 28-21. Weeks later, Alabama down Miami in the Sugar Bowl to claim the national championship.
During his senior season, Langham continued to shine. He was named the winner of the Jim Thorpe Award, which goes annually to the top collegiate defensive back. Langham was the first Bama player to earn that honor. His collegiate career included 40 wins in four seasons, 141 tackles and 19 interceptions, three All-SEC picks (twice First Team), and two First Team All-America selections (unanimously as a senior in 1993).
Langham was the ninth overall selection in the NFL Draft in 1994 by the Cleveland Browns, where he went on to earn NFL All-Rookie Team honors. He played in the league for seven seasons. Langham, who was elected to the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 2019, is the 23rd member of the Crimson Tide selected to the College Football Hall of Fame. He is now the second member of the Miles coaching staff to earn the honor, joining linebackers coach
Ronald McKinnon.
The 2024 class will be officially inducted during the 66th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 10 in Las Vegas. The inductees will also be recognized at their respective collegiate institutions with NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salutes during the fall. Their accomplishments will be immortalized at the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
