Miles basketball on road at Central State

The Miles men's and women's basketball teams are on the road for the first time this calendar year with a daunting task – winning at Central State.

While the records for the Golden Bears and Lady Bears are superior to their opponents, Beacom/Lewis Gym has been a tough place for both of the teams to get victories in the past. The Lady Bears earned a 71-58 win at Central State last season, but that was the first win in six tries on the Lady Marauders home floor. The previous five attempts saw an average margin of defeat at 12.4 points per game.

This season, though, the Lady Bears (12-1 overall, 9-0 SIAC West) come in on fire. They have won a school-record 12 straight contests and are currently ranked No. 23 in the country by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Seven of those wins have been double-digit victories and the team leads the SIAC in average margin of victory (13.5 points per game). Especially noteworthy, Miles is arguably the top defensive team in the league, holding the top spot in points allowed, opponent field goal percentage, steals and rebounds.

The Golden Bears (11-3, 6-2 SIAC West) have come on of late, winners of five straight and leaders of the Western Division. The last four wins – all against SIAC opponents – have been by nearly 16 points per game. Beacom/Lewis Gym and the Marauders used to be a House of Horrors for Miles, which dropped their first four contests against CSU before embarking on its current eight-game win streak against their Ohio opponents. Miles leads the SIAC in scoring defense (60.6) and 3-point field goal percentage (nearly 37 percent) while currently sitting second in scoring margin (8.4).

The action kicks off at noon CT with the Lady Bears. The Golden Bears will start at approximately 2 p.m. CT. To keep up with all the action, click here (WBB), here (MBB) and here (both).
