It took Miles an entire quarter to get its engines revved up on Monday. But after a slow start, the Lady Bears used a turbocharged second quarter to take control of their game against LeMoyne-Owen.
Three players scored in double figures and Miles held a double-digit lead for the entire second half in securing a 71-48 win at Knox-Windham Gymnasium. The 25th-ranked Lady Bears (12-1, 9-0 SIAC West) won for the 12th consecutive time overall, have taken eight straight from the Lady Magicians (8-6, 4-4), and ran their home win streak to 13 games. LOC did not help itself at all, allowing 26 points on 26 turnovers and allowed Miles to collect 25 offensive rebounds that led to a 16-2 advantage in second chance points.
The Lady Magicians led 9-8 at the end of the first quarter, partially thanks to Miles missing 10-of-12 shots from the field. But midway through the second quarter, the Lady Bears took control of the contest and did so with strong defense and great outside shooting.
Madison Lee, who missed Saturday's game against Lane, came back with a vengeance. She drained two 3-pointers, sandwiched around a 3-ball and a steal and score from
Iemyiah Harris, as part of a 12-0 run that put Miles ahead 27-17.
Lee's second 3-pointer was followed by a third and was part of a personal 10-point streak. Her 13 points in the second quarter matched the entire output by the Lady Magicians and helped stake Miles to a 36-22 halftime advantage.Â
The defense continued to shine in the third quarter, holding LeMoyne-Owen without a field goal for almost five minutes. Meanwhile, Harris hit another of her four 3-pointers,
Tederia Ashley started getting loose inside and Lee drained her fourth triple of game to push Miles to a 48-27 lead. One more eight-point run in the fourth quarter, featuring three pointers by Harris and
Kiyara Howard-Garza (seven points), gave the Lady Bears their biggest lead (26 points) with four-and-a-half minutes left. In all, Miles made nine 3-pointers while only allowing one and dominated LeMoyne-Owen on the glass (53-28) in cruising to another big victory.
LeMoyne-Owen's Sierra Lynch had 26 points to lead all scorers. Harris had 18 points, four rebounds, five assists and five steals, Lee had 18 points, six rebounds and three assists of the bench, and Ashley had a double-double (12 points, 12 rebounds) for Miles, which travels to take on Central State on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for noon.
