Morrow, GA | After dropping their first road contest of the season to Kentucky Wesleyan 53-49, The Golden Bears picked up a bounce back win, defeating Clayton State University 72-66 on Saturday.
The game was competitive from start to finish. In the first half, the game was tied four times with six lead changes. Clayton State would lead by seven points with seconds remaining in the half but a three pointer by
Mykayle Carter as time expired would cut the lead to 27-33 at the intermission.
The Golden Bears would open the second half with an 8-0 run to regain the lead. Clayton State would chip away and eventually regained the lead 52-50 with less than 10 minutes to go but the Golden Bears would go on a 15-3 to take a 65-55 lead with 1:40 left in the contest. A late run by Clayton State would trim the Golden Bears lead to five with under a minute remaining but
Alvin Miles would hit four free throws down the stretch to secure a 72-66 victory.
Alvin Miles led all scorers with 17 points, 4 assists and 3 steals,
Corey Trotter added 13 points and had a game high 7 rebounds.
Mykayle Carter and
Chase Ballard contributed 11 and 10 points of the bench respectively
The Golden Bears will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Oakwood College at Knox-Windham Gymnasium. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
