Golden Bears Tame Maroon Tigers

Defeat Morehouse 36-22

Atlanta, GA | The Golden Bears traveled to Atlanta and defeated the Maroon Tigers 36-22 to keep them one game out of first place.

The Golden Bears would score on the opening possession of the game on a 63-yard pass from Edwin Kleinpeter Jr. to Jaquel Fells.  Ten seconds later, Miles Scott would intercept a Morehouse pass for a 26-yard pick-six on Morehouse's first possession.  Kleinpeter would rush for a touchdown late in the second quarter but Morehouse would answer with a touchdown and two-point conversion with no time remaining in the quarter to make the halftime score 21-8.

The second half saw much of the same, the Golden Bears would score on their first possession of the second half on a 4-yard rushing touchdown by Brandon Hicks to give them what felt like a comfortable lead at 28-8 but after two Morehouse touchdowns, the Golden Bear lead was cut to 28-22.  With Morehouse driving for what could have given them their first lead of the day, the Golden Bears defense would force a turnover on downs and the Golden Bears would later score on another Hicks run.  A successful two-point conversion gave the Golden Bears the 36-22 win.

On the day, the Golden Bears out-gained Morehouse 427 to 299 in total yards.  Jamari Riley would lead the team in rushing with 138 yards on 10 attempts.  Chris Ware, Jeremiah Hudson-Davis, and JarDarrius McNealey would each record seven tackles on the day.  Jamichael Rogers would tally a tackle-for-loss, a sack, and force a fumble.

The Golden Bears will be back in action Saturday for their Homecoming.  In a pivot matchup, the Golden Bears will face the 5-1 Yellow Jackets of Allen University, kickoff is set for 4:00pm.  The game will be streamed on the Black College Sports Network (BCSN).
