Golden Bears finish 2nd at SIAC Golf Championships

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Miles posted its best round of the 2022 SIAC Golf Championships on Wednesday, going under 300 for the ninth time in 21 rounds this season. But it was not enough for the Golden Bears to climb to the top of the standings. Spring Hill went low and stayed there over all three rounds to win the league title at the Flat Creek Country Club on Wednesday. Miles finished in second place.

Phillip Darst shot a 1-over 73 in the final round and finished tied for third with a three-round score of 224 (8-over). That was 10 shots behind medalist Peter Schilli of Spring Hill, who shot 5-under 67 in the final round and was minus-2 for the Championship. While the Golden Bears had all six of its participants finish among the top-20, the Badgers placed four in the top-5 and all six were among the top-10 at the event to win by 38 strokes.

SIAC Golfer of the Year Christian Copen finished at 229 (+13), good for eight place. Both he and Darst were selected to the All-Tournament team, which was comprised of the best 10 finishers at the Championship. Both Magne Chambers-Wilson and Fred Windham finished just outside the top-10. Chambers-Wilson, competing as an individual, shot even-par 72 on Wednesday - the best round from any Golden Bear during the Championship - while Windham was at 1-over 73 to both finish at 235 (+19), tied for 11th. Britton Khalaf (15th) and Marquis Taylor (19th) rounded out the performances for Miles.

The Golden Bears will close out their 2021-22 campaign on May 2-4 when they compete in the PGA Works Collegiate Championship in Philadelphia, Pa.
