Lady Bears continue to roll, dispatch Spring Hill

It took a while for Miles to get rolling, but when the Lady Bears finally got it together Monday night, Spring Hill could offer little resistance.

Miles broke open a close game with a big run at the end of the first half, then blew the game open in the fourth quarter en route to a 73-50 victory over the Badgers at Knox-Windham Gymnasium. Eleven players scored for the Lady Bears (16-5, 9-5 SIAC West) as they won their third straight while they held Spring Hill (4-21, 2-13) to 32 percent shooting and forced 29 turnovers on the night.

After a back-and-forth battle through the opening period, Tyashia Bostick drained back-to-back 3-pointer to give Spring Hill a 19-16 lead early in the second quarter. But with the scored tied at 20, Miles allowed just one Badger field goal over the final six minutes. Markisha Body (nine points, five rebounds) scored the final seven points before halftime and the Lady Bears went into the break with a 32-22 advantage.

The Badgers spent most of the third quarter trailing by double digits but had cut the deficit to eight points inside the final minute. But Breah McGrady knocked down a jumper to send Miles into the fourth quarter still holding a 10-point lead. Again, Spring Hill tried to stay in the game, getting to within seven points in the opening minute of the final quarter. But the Lady Bears responded by scoring the next 17 points to put the game out of reach.

McGrady scored nine of her 13 points during the stretch while Imani Williams showed why she has been one of the best all-around threats in the conference this season. She had six points, three assists, three steals, a rebound and a blocked shot in a four-minute span that concluded with an Alana Gibbs bucket that made it 66-42 with five-and-a-half minutes left. Williams finished with 14 points, 15 rebounds, six assists, six steals and a blocked shot as Miles led by as many as 25 points in the final period.

Bostick scored 18 points to lead Spring Hill. Camryn London had 11 points, two steals and a blocked shot for Miles, which travels to face Kentucky State on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
