Miles crushes Spring Hill for seventh straight win

MOBILE, Ala. -- Miles had five players score in double figures and led by as many as 37 points in an 87-58 shellacking of Spring Hill on Saturday afternoon at the Outlaw Recreation Center. The win was the seventh consecutive this season for the Golden Bears (13-3 overall, 8-1 SIAC West), which is their longest win streak of this campaign. It also marks the 10th straight win over the Badgers (2-14, 1-8), whose last win over Miles came in January 2018.

Mykayle Carter has been on a tear over the past three games and he wasted no time asserting himself against the Badgers. He knocked down 3-pointers on Miles' first two possessions to give the Golden Bears a lead they would never relinquish. He scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 5-of-11 on 3-pointers. Over his last three performances, he is averaging 17.3 points on 51 percent shooting from the field and 48 percent from the 3-point arc to go along with 4.7 rebounds and two steals. He would drain another 3-ball, which followed a 3-pointer by Truitt Spencer, to give Miles an 18-6 advantage less than six minutes into the contest.

But everyone was getting into the scoring fun for the Golden Bears, who shot 60 percent from the field in the first half and 58 percent for the game. Spencer (16 points) would knock down another of Miles' six 3-pointers in the first half for a 32-16 lead with 8:17 left before the break. Dunks were coming from everywhere, with Joel Logan, Yasim Hooker (14 points, four rebounds, three assists, three steals) and Anthony Fairley rim-running throughout the first half. Fairley (11 points) was particularly impressive with dunks on back-to-back plays that was creating content for posters and NFTs everywhere, as the Golden Bears went into halftime with a 45-26 lead.

The second half was near as dominant as the first half for Miles, whose lead never fell below 16 points. Ahead by 22 points with less than seven minutes remaining, the Golden Bears went on a 17-2 run that slammed the door shut on Spring Hill. Logan (10 points) had a dunk, Carter and Patrick Rucker each had 3-pointers and when Kendrick Foster made the back half of two free throws with 1:46 to go, Miles led 87-50 - its largest lead of the contest.

Four players scored in double figures for Spring Hill, including David Daniels 12 points to go along with eight rebounds. Brandon Miller had eight points to go along with team highs in rebounds (8) and assists (7) for Miles, which travels to Tuskegee on Monday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
