ATLANTA -- Miles has been road warriors during the early part of the season, having played five straight games (and an additional exhibition contest) on the visitor's side of the floor. But each of those five regular-season contests have turned into victories, the latest coming in a 66-62 non-conference win over Clark Atlanta Thursday night at Epps Gymnasium.Â
While the game was tight throughout, the Lady Bears (7-0) used a 15-4 run between the third and fourth quarters to grab the lead. Down by three points with two minutes remaining in the third,
Nadia Cathey (seven points, four steals) ignited the spurt by scoring on three consecutive possessions as Miles closed the period on an 8-0 run and led 46-41 going into the final stanza.
Jakera Ellerbee (12 points, eight rebounds, two blocks), who scored the final points in the third quarter, added two more buckets at the start of the fourth to keep the Lady Bears lead at five points. When
Camryn London drained a 3-pointer with 8:16 remaining, Miles led 53-45 - the largest lead of the game for either team. Still, Clark Atlanta (2-8) kept coming. When Kaia Barnett put back her own miss with 39 seconds left, the Panthers had taken a 62-61 lead.
But London had the response on the ensuing possession. On a feed from
Imani Williams, she drained a 3-ball eight seconds later to put Miles back on top for good. CAU had two shots to tie the game but was unable to convert. London grabbed the the rebound, was fouled, and knocked down both free throws to nail down the win for the Lady Bears.

Nuriyah Slaton (nine points, six rebounds) and Williams (four points, 13 rebounds, six assists, four blocks, three steals) provided a huge lift for the Lady Bears, who host Benedict on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
